very special people.

very special people.

Sometimes you’re truly blessed to meet the most incredible people and be part of putting a smile on someone’s face. This story is about a day I can honestly say I will never forget.

Last week I got a phone call from Greenacres Retirement Options who told me the story of one of their residents Suzy. Ever since she was a teenager Suzy was fascinated with wedding dresses, cutting out and pasting pictures of them in her own wrap book to this day. Suzy is 72 years old, has a disability. The phone call I received was a request for my time to make Suzy’s dream come true.

With three staff to help, Suzy the bride-to-be arrived with her two bridesmaids, also from Greenacres. Complete with her makeup kindly done by the staff, it took a little to help Suzy feel less overwhelmed, but with the help of the lovely ladies from Greenacre, we put on her dress and her veil.

See the thing is, Suzy has an engagement ring, but unlike the other brides who visit me, eager to marry their grooms, Suzy only has her ring and dream. I was overwhelmed with emotion when the ladies told me that Suzy knows that she is severely disabled and that getting married isn’t an option, but they thought that shouldn’t mean she didn’t have this last experience.

The one thing that was the same between this and all my other fittings was the excitement, and the smiles. This time, I let this bride take photos. They’re going in her scrap book so that she could look at them everyday.

I wanted to share this story so that I could also commend the amazing people ladies who do the work that they do, very special people.

For the one or two hours I spent with Suzy and her friends, I feel honoured to be part of her special day. It truly touched my heart and I will always remember it. Before Suzy came to my bridal boutique, she only had her dream and her ring. I’m happy to say she now also has a beautiful memory and some photos for her treasured book.

Thank you Suzy and the team from Greenacre.
