Mother of Bride learning to Bead

Mother of Bride learning to Bead

I recently had a bride and her mother in the shop and, after trying on only a few styles, we found The Dress. It looked like it was made for her, and her alone. However, while the bride loved the dress, both she and her mother felt that it lacked embellishment and they suggested adding some beading to the neckline. I could immediately see what they were saying; being a seamstress, this attention to detail is my thing. The bride was conscious of her budget, and so I asked her mother if she had ever done any sewing. The mother replied that she enjoyed quilting, but had never had any experience with beading. “Perfect!” I exclaimed, “When your dress arrives and I have finished the alterations, I will teach your mother how to bead it for you!” Her mother was nervous, but I chose a simple pattern and we had a lovely time whilst I taught her the basics of beading.

Beading is time consuming, but the impact belies how easy it actually is. I taught my daughter to bead when she was only fourteen, it simply requires patience and a keen eye.
Here are a couple of photographs of the beading lesson.
