How to help a bride visualise the wedding dress

How to help a bride visualise the wedding dress

Sometimes a bride comes into the boutique wanting a style of dress that I haven’t currently got in stock. This bride had her heart set on a frothy trumpet skirt and a strapless lace bodice. I had seen something similar in the London shows, and knew I could order in exactly what she was looking for, but until it arrived I needed a way to help the bride visualise what it was going to look like on her figure.

I found a dress in my boutique with the same lace, and put it on the bride with the straps tucked in to show how she would look with her shoulders bare. Over it we placed the skirt from another dress, which was fashioned in the same tiered style that she loved. The combination of the two dresses looked fantastic on the bride, and allowed her to imagine what her final dress would look like, despite it being months before it arrived in the shop.
When I worked entirely with Made-to-Measure gowns, it was always a struggle to help the brides visualise what their dream dress would look like until the last button was sewn on. However, with Off-the-Rack dresses, we can combine design elements and tailoring to give you your dream dress with less effort, cost and time involved. It’s my role as seamstress to point out the changes that we can make to create a dress that is uniquely yours.
