Baby Bump. This story is the of the very best kind. While bumps in the road to planning a wedding are expected, one that isn’t always expected is a baby
bump. One of my brides walked in a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with a fit and flare lace dress. Confident with her choice, we made plans
for her final fitting closer to the big day. 9 weeks from that day she called to say that she is pregnant and that the wedding is still locked and
going full steam ahead. This meant she would be 19 weeks pregnant on her wedding day…
I told her to ring me 4 weeks out and that I would know what I would need to do then, with the worst case scenario being that she would need to choose
a full dress.
When she came in, as expected, the dress was getting too small. I had been thinking about how to go about accommodating her growing bump, and I promised
her that I would make sure she would wear the dress she loved from the very start.
This involved shortening the boning to above the waist line so that the dress was less structured, allowing a softer and more generous fabric around her
baby bump.
I added a gusset to the side seam to give a bit more room for our unexpected guest, and applied a lace applique which I took from the bottom of the hem
to conceal my handiwork and our beautiful baby bump.
It was the Monday before her wedding on the Saturday… a close call to say the least but I did the alterations the week of to ensure I would have
the perfect fit. Her chosen dress ended up skimming gently over her tummy.
I always say how much of a privilege it is to be part of the most important day of somebody’s life, but I thought that it was something special and particularly
beautiful to know that the two who would become one would soon become three.
