Can We Add a Split to a Wedding Dress
Can We Add a Split to a Wedding Dress?
Advice from Accapella Bridal
My bride absolutely loves her Essense of Australia D4304 🤍 With a 19th December wedding, she’s understandably thinking about the summer heat—and asked if we could add a split to her skirt for comfort and ease of movement. The answer? Yes—and this dress was perfect for it.
Why This Dress Worked So Well
The D4304 already has a side seam with a soft pleat, which meant the split could be added cleanly and sympathetically to the original design. Because we weren’t disrupting the structure of the skirt, the alteration was straightforward, cost-effective, and beautifully finished. The result is elegant, breathable, and effortlessly modern—ideal for a summer wedding.
✨ Advice from Accapella Bridal ✨
Can we put a split in the skirt? Yes, we can—but it depends on the construction of your gown.
• If your gown has a side seam or centre-front seam, adding a split is much easier and more cost-effective.
• If there’s no seam, the skirt layers must be unpicked from the waist, carefully measured, and realigned so every layer matches perfectly
.• This process is very time-consuming, and therefore more costly 💸👉
Always ask before you fall in love with that split look. A quick conversation with your seamstress can make all the difference
